The age of AI search

How to tell if AI search is working for you

The short answer

To tell if AI search is working for you, check how often ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews name you, review what changed since the last report, and keep assistant reads apart from actual visits.

Check your mention rate

You need to know if assistants name you when local home buyers ask questions. We run a fixed set of real questions across 4 AI assistants, covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Solo plans test this monthly, while team seats test this weekly. When we read unbranded answers, 97.2 percent named at least one agent or team.

Your report shows where you stand on all 4 engines. In our research, assistants named 657 different agents and teams across those answers, so one mention means little until you see it month after month.

Track what changed since last month

A single snapshot tells you very little. True progress shows in the movement from one month to the next. Your monthly report highlights exactly what shifted since the previous report.

It also details the exact work we completed for your presence. You can see how your visibility evolved across the engines without guessing.

Read several reports side by side before you judge a trend, since a single month can move for reasons outside your control.

Separate website reads from visits

Website statistics in your dashboard show who came to your site and where they arrived from. An assistant reading your site and a person arriving from an AI answer are two different numbers.

We never add them together, because reading is not recommending. Keeping reads and visits apart lets you measure actual human engagement accurately.

Reads tell you an assistant can see your pages. Visits tell you a person came from an answer, which is the number closer to a client.

Questions

How often is my mention rate checked?

On a solo agent plan, your mention rate is checked monthly. On a team plan, it is checked weekly for each team seat.

Why do you keep AI reads and visits apart?

An assistant reading your site is a technical process, while a visit is a person arriving from an answer. The report counts each one on its own.

What should I do if my mention rate does not move?

Check that your business facts agree everywhere they appear, from your Google Business Profile to the portals and directories that list you. Your monthly report lists the work we did, so you can see what changed on your side before the next measurement.
